OVERVIEW

“Decolonising Africa starts with simple things, we must have a language that unites Africans”. Powerful words from EEF leader Julius Malema, whom in the same speech went onto propose Swahili as the official continental language of Africa.

Since then, education ministers in SA approved Swahili as an optional language for primary school students. Plus, as one of the working languages of the African Union, Swahili could have a key part to play in the future of cross-national/diasporic unity.

Discover Swahili is a beginner’s course where students will learn the basic vocabulary of this beautiful Bantu language. The course is delivered over 12 dynamic and interactive sessions on the foundational elements for competence in general conversation. The course is a great starting point if you plan to speak fluently over time or intend to travel to Swahili speaking regions and want to get by. Come the end you will be confident in pronunciations, nouns, pronouns and grammar. The course is great also a great way to connect with cultures of the Swahili speaking nations such as Kenya, DRC or Uganda. Providing you with an authentic African lens from which to study other sciences, arts and disciplines.
